The quality of the space has a big influence on our every day life. It is a pleasure to be engaged in a work to control the quality of space. Especially, a house is a container for daily life repeated every day unlike the ones to receive non-daily stimulation such as museums or the music halls. We think that it is important to pay attention to such parts and discover something from it. We also believe that the design of construction can be useful to refresh our mind every day.
To aim "Safe and comfortable construction" is one of our main objects of the construction. It is necessary to be without lies in aspects of both designing and the material choice. We use a comparatively soft tree such as a Japanese cedar, a Japanese cypress and a Sawara cypress. To finish up, plasterers such as the mud wall and mortar are often used. Those softness materials that contain a lot of air are very good on regulating humidity and make the air in the room comfortable level. In today's high airtight construction, it is extremely important that toxic substance to the human body should not be detected from the construction material. Moreover, the expression of the tree, the soil and mortar change beautifully when years pass. To make construction in a living more beautiful than when it is completed, those materials contribute infinite power.
We would rather use the material and the industrial methods that have been repeated for hundreds of years than something new that has appeared in recent years. It is a mortar that has a long record of performance and will surely exist for hundreds of years in the future, and also the secondary products of the tree, the soil, the stone, and the lime. One of our challenges is to aim a beautiful construction using something not special, available and easily processed. Every piece of the tree, the soil and the stone have different style and uneven so that the expressions are also various, and the color is complex and deep. Enjoyment is just adding architects’ consideration to the power of individual material not originally created for human’s convenience. Moreover, the technology of the workmen who are well aware of those treatments and their strengthened eyes are needed by all means. To tie the past, the people and the nature; it is a small experiment hoping to reconfirm how to associate with the earth. The expression of the construction created under such a circumstance surely gives another extension to the pure aesthetics that architects dream about. |
